Objective
Develop a practice of personal health using dooryard herbs, simple ritual, compassionate, listening, seasonal cycles and optimum nutrition.

Curriculum Outline
|
- Build a foundation for using herbs safely
- Identify, harvest and use local wild herbs
- Learn cultivation techniques to grow herbs for food and medicine
- Create optimum nutrition with traditional food preparation
- Learn to make and use herbal remedies
- Cultivate skills in observation
- Create a personal materia medica
- Gain skill and confidence to sort through health care options and be an informed advocate for healing
- Develop an understanding of health using elemental energy, seasonal cycles and patterns
- Develop life enhancing communication skills

Overnight Accommodations by request only:

- Spaces available for sleeping: 2 available bedrooms in house, tenting spaces in yard.
- You will need to provide: Bedding, sleeping bag, sleeping pad. Personal toiletries. To conserve water, showers will not be available during the weekend.

Level 1 and 2: TBA for the 9-month program
Tuition includes:

- 18 days of class time/instruction, approximately 110 hours
- Level 1: Class text - Healing Wise by Susun S. Weed and Herbal Ally Notebook.
Level 2: Class text - Botany in a Day by Thomas J. Elpel and Herbalism of Place Notebook
- 18 lunches
- Access to a 1,000 volume multi-media library, i.e. books, videos & tapes
- Access to tools for herbal medicine making, i.e. hydraulic press, cider press, dehydrators
- Direct experience with integrated webs of life incorporating greenhouse, gardens, small livestock rearing, apothecary, herbal store & cottage industry
- Level 1: 1 dried herb a month, 9 different herbs, for use during the course of study Level 2: 1 herb or herbal remedy, for use during course of study.
- Access to an established, eco-friendly herb garden with over 350 varieties of herb, native and exotic plants where plant material for food & medicine making will be gathered

Tuition Payment Options:
Cash Payment
- Pay in full. Bring the total payment to interview or 1st class
- Use the trimester payment plan.
Stewardship Option
Participate in our hands-on training program by working on the croft. It is an exceptional opportunity to receive training, gain experience and reduce your tuition by 1/3. By participating in this training program you gain valuable hands-on experience.
Requires a commitment of ONE 5hr day per week for 6 months, April thru September. Work is Thursday, 9:30am - 3:00pm.
The total payment for HGU and the Stewardship option is $1750. By participating and fulfilling your commitment in this program you receive a $500 reduction in tuition making your total cash payment $1250.
Stewardship, The Work
- Be on time.
- Be prepared to work at indoor or outdoor activities on any day.
- You will need: work gloves, & rubber boots. Required equipment: hand clippers and small hand weeding tool.
